[edit] CayucoPedia Facts

  • During the Ocean to Ocean Cayuco Race, cayucos never go through the Gatun Set of locks (Set of locks on the Atlantic entrance of the Canal).
  • With the permission of the Panama Canal Authority, cayucos perform the lockage through the Pedro Miguel Locks to access the Miraflores Lake (4th stretch of the Ocean to Ocean Race), and then go through the Miraflores Locks to access the 5th stretch of the Ocean to Ocean Race(Diablo Stretch), during the Ocean to Ocean race on Day 3 of competition.
  • The Panama Canal doesn't stop its regular operation during the Ocean to Ocean Cayuco Race, so while performing the lockage, other vessels, such as yachts or other small boats, can be put in a set of locks with the cayucos at the same time.
